Melton Vale Sixth Form College is 'Outstanding' in all areas

Melton Vale Sixth Form College (MV16), in Burton Road in Melton Mowbray, is delighted to announce that they have achieved ‘Outstanding’ in their most recent Ofsted inspection.

The college, part of Nova Education Trust, secured an Outstanding rating in all areas in their first inspection under the new Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).

Inspectors recognised that students are proud to study at MV16. They rightly value the calm and purposeful atmosphere at the college and enjoy the freedoms that the sixth form experience offers. They feel, and are, safe.

Students’ attitudes towards their learning are exceptional. They demonstrate high levels of commitment to develop their skills and knowledge. Students take ownership of their learning by completing a range of independent activities outside of the classroom. This helps them develop their knowledge and understanding beyond the requirements of their course.

Students appreciate how effectively staff oversee and support their well-being. They rightly appreciate the high quality well-being spaces and learning environments created by staff. Students feel, and inspectors agree, that their opinions are listened to.

Leaders and governors ensure that students benefit from a well-informed and up to date curriculum. They work extensively with key stakeholders to plan a curriculum offer that meets local and regional employment needs exceptionally well.

Teachers are highly skilled practitioners. They have extensive levels of subject knowledge which they use well. Teachers’ structure lessons carefully and thoughtfully. They consider the links between topics in their own subject and those of the different courses so that lessons complement each other.

Teachers are passionate about their subjects and use highly effective teaching techniques to present information clearly.

Sandy Paley, Executive Head Teacher of MV16, said:

“I am extremely grateful to the students, staff, parents and governors for the joint commitment to making MV16 such a special place to work and learn, over many years. Inspectors recognised the highest quality of provision in all areas of school life during the three-day inspection and we are proud that our college continues to provide the very best post-16 provision, befitting of our community.”

“As our new Head Teacher, Dr Nicki Dartnell, joins us this term, we will continue to reflect on our self-evaluation and that of the inspectors, as we plan for an even brighter future for the college and the young people of Melton Mowbray and the surrounding area.”

Nicki Dartnell, who took up the post of Head Teacher following the inspection, added:

“I feel very fortunate to be joining the MV16 community at this point and pleased that, alongside its outstanding environment, the staff have been recognised for being outstanding sixth form specialists.”

“I am looking forward to further developing the sixth form experience and establishing MV16 at the heart of the communities it serves.”

Ash Rahman, Nova Education Trust CEO, said:

“We are absolutely delighted that Melton Vale has received the official recognition that this fantastic sixth form provision deserves. MV16 provides a unique environment for learners where they are inspired, developed and motivated to achieve.”

“I am extremely proud of the whole organisation, and all our colleagues for their continued hard work during what has been a challenging period for all. We now look to the future as we further develop our vision to create truly transformational education for the young people we serve.”
