Alicia Kearns MP marked Parliament Week by visiting MV16, talking to Politics students, meeting teachers an planting an Oak tree to mark our 10 year anniversary. We really enjoyed hosting our local MP with students eager to attend a trip to the Houses of Parliament in the coming months.

Why a native Oak (Quercus Robur)? Not only does it represent longevity and resilience, but more importantly, according to research published by published by the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in 2019 our native Oak supports a staggering 2,300 species, 326 of these are dependent on the oak for their survival! There are also a further 229 species rarely found on trees other than oak. – amazing!

An array of animals and plants use different parts of oak at different times. Every bit of the tree has value, from the top of the canopy to the tip of the roots.
