This is a 2 year course designed to build on students’ experience at KS4 and GCSE level, it combines theoretical content with practical assessments. Students will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of Physical Education and how the factors involved impact on performance and participation. As well as the theoretical elements of the course students will have an opportunity to demonstrate their ability as a performer, coach or official.
This qualification is linear, which means that students will sit all their exams and submit all their non-exam assessment at the end of the course. The course combines theoretical content with practical assessments.

The subjects you study will be invaluable at a personal level and will help you to be better at sport, no matter what your standard. This A Level also opens up a number of career options, for example: sport scientist, physiotherapist, exercise or fitness trainer, the active leisure industry, or working for a national governing body. It will also assist entry onto university courses such as BSc Sport Science and BEd Physical Education.
You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Science to prepare for higher education in areas of Sport Studies, Recreation, Exercise and Science or more general higher education courses.
The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the sporting sectors.
Theoretical assessment is completed through 2 written exam papers, the exam papers will have multiple choice, short answer and extended answer questions.
There is also a non-exam assessment, this will assess practical performance in physical activity and sport. Students will be assessed as a performer or coach in the full-sided version of one activity. There is also an assessment of their written/verbal analysis and evaluation of performance.
